Each marking period we will reevaluate student performance, our local COVID-19 infection rate, and recommendations from the Van Buren/Cass County Health Department to determine if face-to-face attendance is able to increase.

Progress reports will be sent home on a regular basis to help families make informed decisions about their student's performance and which setting, remote or face-to-face, is best for their student.

Greetings Bulldog Families,

Together, we approach a new school year that will sound, look, and feel much different than any other.  We know that the conditions related to COVID-19 will continue to evolve.  Therefore we will continue to follow the requirements in the Governor’s MI Safe Schools Return Roadmap as well as guidelines given to us by the Van Buren/Cass County Health Department. These challenging circumstances have required that we reimagine teaching and learning, and how we engage with and support our students and families.

As we plan for a safe and successful 2020-2021 school year, we do so with an enormous sense of responsibility for the health and well-being of our students, families, and staff.  On August 13, 2020, the Board of Education approved Covert Public Schools’ Preparedness and Response Plan which offers two learning options: in-person instruction and remote learning. For access to this document, click on the Return to Learn tab for more detailed information.

The first day of school for students will be August 31, 2020.  This will be a half-day of school for students.  All of our students are expected to participate in learning five days a week.  As we mitigate the risk of COVID-19 spread, we will also implement the following safety measures for any in-person instruction based on the current phase 4 that we are under:

(1) Require the wearing of face coverings, except during meals and unless face coverings cannot be medically tolerated, for:

-All staff and all students in grades pre-kindergarten and up when on a school bus.
-All staff and all students in grades pre-kindergarten and up when in indoor hallways and common areas.
-All staff when in classrooms
-All students in grades 6 and up when in classrooms.
-All students in grades kindergarten through 5 unless students remain with their classes throughout the day and do not come in contact with students in another class.

(2)  Prohibit indoor assemblies that bring together students from more than one classroom.

Covert has faced and rose above challenging situations in the past and this is no exception.  Know that our staff is caring, capable, and committed to the work that lies ahead. WE, WILL, CONTINUE TO WALK THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

Please continue to check the district website, Facebook page, and your voicemail & email for the most up-to-date information.

Bulldog Strong!
